DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

Chemistry, the practical science connects the concepts of chemistry to the world we live in, developing effective problem solvers and critical thinkers for today’s visual, technology-driven word. The real-word applications are interwoven throughout the narrative, examples and exercises, presenting core chemical concepts in the context of everyday life. The hands-on training is essential and the life to understanding all science subjects and chemistry is not an exception.

Department History:

HISTORY: The Department of Chemistry was started in the year 1994. Since the department has progressed Three UG Programme in B.Sc (MPC, BZC, and MZC) and one PG Programme which was established in the year 2000, with the specialization in Organic Chemistry. The B.Sc Programme was started in the year 1994 with two full time faculty and one part time lecturer Headed by Prof. E.L.R Dayanand Regional Engineering College, Warangal and an intake of 90 students, subsequently the intake was increased to 120 in the year 2001 and to 200 in the year 2009 and to 250 in the year 2011 and in the year 2018 the intake got enhanced to 300. The post graduate programme in M.Sc (Organic Chemistry) has an intake of 36. The Department has state of the art laboratories such as Organic, Inorganic& Physical Chemistry Labs. They are adequately budgeted with glassware worth Rs. 7lacks and chemicals worth Rs.15lacks besides 5 gas connections, two refrigerators, and other sophisticated equipments and are regularly upgraded to meet the modern changes in Chemistry. The Department hosts a very good library which is accessible to both students and staff. The syllabi of the courses are periodically updated to taking into fold the rapid changes in the field of Chemistry

The Department has dedicated and dynamic faculty members all with PG degrees and they continuously endeavour to maintain the academic standards of the institution. The faculty has a zeal for research and it is reflected by their publications in various National and International Journals

The Department of Chemistry motivates the students to actively participate in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to enhance the all-round performance of the students. Chemistry Association is very active in organizing various technical events. Most of the students from chemistry of department got placed on campus every year in reputed Industries like GVK BIO, Dr. REDDY’S , HETERO, SUN PHARMA, DHEVIS etc. in-addition the students also fare very well in other competitive exams like CSIR, GRE, GATE, SET etc and are pursuing their higher studies at premier institutes in India and abroad. The department also conducts regular Faculty Development Programmes and for the development of teaching fraternity.

VISSION

To nurture the students in the field of Chemistry with an overall back-ground suitable for attaining a successful career in higher education, research and Industry.

CAREER SCOPE OF CHEMISTRY

What is the future scope of B.Sc- chemistry

The B.Sc chemistry graduates have many options for their higher studies like master’s degree in the same. Some of the higher study options after B.Sc Chemistry Honors are: M.Sc. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Drug Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Physical & Materials Chemistry, Master of Business Administration (MBA) etc. Certification courses can also be one option for the B.Sc Chemistry graduates is e.g. Post-Graduate Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (PGDAC).

Graduates from this course will be better prepared to understand the new environment-friendly systems and can understand the processes that the chemical industry is adopting. After doing BSc Chemistry, one can go for MSc in Chemistry or take up various jobs and also take up internships to prepare for industry level entries. Some of the jobs are as follows:

Analytical Chemist

Bio-medical Chemist

Chemical Engineering Associate

Industrial Research Scientist

Lab Chemist

Materials Technologist

Production Chemist

Production Officer.

Quality Controller

R&D Director

Research & Development Manager

Safety Health and Environment Specialist

Career after M.Sc in Chemistry

There exist enormous career opportunities for aspirants who have completed their master’s degree in Chemistry. M.Sc course allows candidates to get specialized in diverse areas of Chemistry (Agricultural Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, etc). They can also seek jobs in their selected area of study. Both public as well as private sector firms recruit candidates for their varied operations. Those who are interested to work out side India, can work with better compensation packages

The department consist of seven lecturers and is currently headed by
